Zotob virus used to steal credit card information. Dec-08-2006

Some simple steps that can be taken to prevent this virus from infecting your PC.

Microsoft Security Bulletin MS05-039 details what the virus does to the infected PC and tools that can be used to clean the PC and then patch it to prevent further infection.

Common sense and minimal security precautions can help to make an infection less likely. Don't open attachments that you are not expecting and run either a personal firewall or use a NAT device. Keeping an up to date anti virus program running on the PC is also a good best practice for any PC connected to the Internet.

ZDnet gives some information on the virus and the people that wrote it as well as what is being down to stop them. The main thrust of this virus beyond infecting other PCs appears to be grabbing an infected PC owners credit card information and then sending it back to central point for harvesting later.
